The Smetana Trio concludes its Wigmore Hall residency with a quartet of extraordinarily inventive works. It begins with the fizzing folk influences of Haydn’s Trio in G major and the intense rhythmic vitality of Brahms’s late Op. 101. Shostakovich’s poetic First Piano Trio, a product of his mid-teens, provides the perfect preface to Dvořák’s impassioned ‘Dumky’ Trio.
